LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Platinum certification
Quad Central’s LEED Platinum certification sets a new benchmark for sustainable development in Malta, making it the first building in the country to earn this award. This accomplishment proves that eco-friendly practices can enhance both environmental and human well-being while achieving extensive cost savings.
This certification places Quad Central among the highest ranks of eco-friendly buildings, demonstrating its dedication to energy efficiency, water conservation, and overall sustainability. The LEED certification process involves meeting stringent criteria in areas such as sustainable site development, water efficiency, and indoor environmental quality. Quad Central set clear sustainability goals and collaborated with architects, engineers, and sustainability consultants to ensure compliance with LEED standards. Extensive monitoring and documentation were conducted to achieve Platinum status.

WHAT WE'VE ACHIEVED
Some further insights on our LEED Platinum certification.

Sustainable Sites
From excavation to the completion of construction, a works monitoring plan was implemented, which included monitoring air quality and noise levels in the surrounding areas
Improved connectivity is achieved through close proximity to public transport routes, the implementation of a green transport plan, and the availability of 105 covered bicycle storage facilities
An effective rainwater system ensures that stormwater runoff from 90% of the average annual rainfall is captured and reused within the development

Water Efficiency
Potable water use has been reduced by over 60% through the use of on-site treated wastewater for flushing activities and reduced flow rates from plumbing fixtures
Potable water use in the public sewage conveyance system has been reduced by over 80%
Landscaping and irrigation systems are designed to reduce water usage for irrigation by over 70%
Potable water use for irrigation has been reduced, with estimates indicating that up to 100% of irrigation water requirements can be met without using potable water

Energy and Atmosphere
The use of energy-efficient equipment and building control systems, along with a low U-value façade, ensures energy cost savings of over 40%
No CFC-based refrigerants have been used, thereby eliminating any impact on ozone depletion and global climate change
A 120 kWp vertical photovoltaic system has been installed, generating over 100,000 kWh of electrical power per year

Materials and Resources
A thorough site waste management plan was implemented from the early stages of construction
All waste generated by the project was collected, separated, and stored in dedicated areas for eventual recycling
Over 70% of the construction waste generated onsite was recycled and diverted from the landfill
Materials were selected based on their environmental impact, as well as their functionality, aesthetics, and durability. Over 20% of the total building material content was manufactured using recycled materials

Indoor Environmental Quality
100% outdoor air mechanical ventilation systems with integrated heat recovery in all occupied spaces ensure optimum indoor air quality
Ventilation rates have been increased beyond the minimum local and international requirements
Combined heating, cooling, and ventilation systems ensure optimum thermal comfort for occupants

Innovation in Design
The use of innovative equipment, such as a grey water treatment plant, a vertical PV system, and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, enhances sustainability
Encouraging sustainable practices, such as reducing potable water use for irrigation and promoting sustainable mobility
